Types of Hearing Aids

Hearing aid solutions is as unique as you are. At Lakeside Audiology & Hearing Solutions, our professional team of hearing specialists will help you determine the best type, style and fit of hearing aid for your hearing loss. It’s important to work with a hearing care professional to understand and choose a hearing device that fits right and sounds right. Here’s a general overview of the different kinds of instruments out there and where they work best.

In-the-Canal Hearing Aids (ITCs)

This type of hearing aid fits inside the ear canal making it practically “invisible.” A smaller device, ITCs are used in mild to moderate hearing loss.

In-the-Ear Hearing Aids (ITEs)

In-the-ear hearing aids are custom made to shape and fit within the outer portion of the ear. Easier to handle for most people, ITEs are used for mild to severe hearing loss.

Behind-the-Ear Hearing Aids (BTEs)

This hearing device fits behind the ear that has a tube that directs sound into an earbud or earmold in the ear canal. It is best used in moderate to severe hearing loss.

Receiver-in-the-Ear (RITE)

Similar to a BTE, these devices are significantly smaller and house most of the electronics the case that fits behind-the-ear. Sound is transmitted electronically from the case to a tiny speaker in the ear canal much like a loudspeaker. With advanced technology available today, you can connect your TV, your doorbell and even your phone to your device.  RITE devices are used in mild to severe hearing loss.
